About Sri S. Prabhakaran ,IFS
S Prabhakaran is the first IFS officer to scale Mount Everest. He has served as the DCF of Udupi (Deputy Conservator of Forest).S. Prabhakaran became the first Indian Forest Services officer to scale Mt. Everest in 2016(May 20).
A BSc (Forestry) graduate from forest college and research institute at Mettupalayam and 2011 batch IFS officer from Tamilnadu, he has earlier served as RFO in Virajpet, Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) in Darwad and DCF in Koppal before taking charge in Udupi .
He is a regular trekker, a black belt in karate. He is also a kabbadi, cricket, football and volley ball player.
A born asthmatic S. Prabhakaran took to rigorous activities after doctor told his parents that asthama is not curable but can be kept under control by ensuring physical activities.
“Physical activities including kabbadi, karate, football, cricket kept me going strong”. He says and added that initiative , he was not been on trekking but got to head the trekking and hiking club in college which let him towards mountaineering.
Prabhakaran underwent a Himalayan mountaineering course in Darjeeling in 2015. After training, he had tried to scale Mt Everest from the southern (Nepal) side but could not. The team had to return from Camp One due to earthquake and avalanche.
It was then he decided to attempt from the northern (China) side. Southern side is frequented by many Indians and foreigners, but very few climb from the northern side, with limited rescue operations making it more challenging. Despite the odds his team scaled the peak on May 20,2016.
