Festival of Forest
Every year we celebrate this festival. We plant saplings, we play skits and sing nature songs and listen to the talk by an expert in the field. The whole day we involve in nature related activities. It's Vanamahotsava. The first week of July.This year we celebrated Vanamahotsava on 6th July. There was a skit against deforestation. The II PU students performed it. “Bachani Devi's Resistance”. It's an adaptation of II PU English lesson, “ Everything I need to know I learned in the forest”, written by Vandana Shiva. This skit highlighted how illiterate village women fought to save forest. The performers received appreciation for their good work. Then Beebi Sulthana and Sumana of II Com sang nature songs.
A stage function to distribute saplings to students:
S. Prabhakaran, IFS, Deputy Conservator of Forest(DCF), Kundapur division, Dr P Prabhu, Retired IFS officer and Prabhakar Kulal, Range Forest Officer were the Chief guests. Forest official of Neralakatte, Hema was present.
Our Lecturer, Prakash Naik gave an introductory speech. Then S Prabhakran, IFS, spoke on the occasion. He said,” Human activities have impacted the wild life. Thus wild plants and animals are at risk of extinction. Deforestation and land degradation are causing water scarcity and erosion. A better understanding between people and nature can help to restore the balance".
S Prabhakaran has made a remarkable achievement by scaling Mount Everest. He has been the first IFS officer to scale Mount Everest in 2016. He narrated his experience of mountaineering. Then he was felicitated for his achievement.
Then Dr Nagesh Prabhu distributed saplings to students. He told about the importance of forest for human existence. He also donated a binocular and a book on Bird watching by Salim Ali to tour college.
Our principal Halappa G K presided. Welcome address was given by Sandeep II Com, Manjusha II Com anchored and Vignesh II Com gave vote of thanks.
After the function the guests planted saplings in the college premises.
