Ashwitha I Arts gifting a book |
Earlier we distributed sweets to our friends on our birthdays and we felt pride to distribute it to our lecturers also. But, it's our teachers who suggested us to gift books instead of sweets. Joy of reading books remains forever. So, from this year, it's ‘a Birthday with Books'. A birthday without sweets, yet ‘very sweet'.

Letter of Greeting |
A week before our birthdays we tell our teachers our wish to gift books. They arrange the books for gifting. A book costing minimum Rs 50 is given. Some students have given 2-3 books also. The senior students of our college, who got inspired by this program have also gifted books on their birthdays. Our lecturers also have celebrated their birthdays by giving books. Our Economics lecturer has given the annual subscription of the monthly magazine, ‘Spardha Spoorthi’.
We have a small library set up by our lecturers initially by bringing books from their homes. Though Sitharam Jindal Foundation Bangalore has donated books worth Rs 23000 last year, the number of books is not enough to satisfy our reading hunger. This programme has helped to grow our library. This has also helped us to make friends with books. Moreover it is a meaningful celebration of the occasion. Impressed by this, we have decided to celebrate every special occasion – may be naming ceremony, wedding or house warming by gifting books in its fond memory. We have told our neighbours and friends also that they can celebrate the special occasions with us by gifting books to our college.
